A gift set of essential oils went on an open shelf, and a week later Mabel was sitting next to a knocked-over bottle. What my vet told me, and where the oils in my house live now.

A set table is a new landscape to a cat and a tail-height hazard for a big dog. How I host holiday dinners now without giving up the nice table, and where the good dishes live the rest of the year.

A friend told me my place looked like a dog lived in it, and she meant it kindly. It took me a year to stop hearing it as criticism. On tolerance, staging your home for nobody, and what a used room is worth.

Four rentals, one deposit I lost and one I got back in full. What actually gets held against you at move-out, what is reversible, and how I stopped treating a rental as a place I could not change.

Two years of dog nails and one bad accident taught me what my beautiful softwood floors could and could not survive. An honest account of scratches, cupping, area rugs, and the tradeoffs nobody mentions.

The left arm of my sofa was opened up like a bag of chips, and I spent six months doing the wrong things about it. What I learned about weave, placement, and admitting the furniture was never the real subject.
